Environment friendly and non polluting energy sources are called as Green Energy. These include solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, hydro energy etc. Nuclear power is also considered as a form of Green energy. These energy sources are considered as Green energy due to the fact that these forms of energy are less polluting since the carbon emission is too low.
The term Sustainable energy is often used to describe the provision of energy such that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The Green energy sources are considered as equivalent to sustainable energy. The term Green power applies to the electric power generated from green sources. To a certain extent, hydro electricity can be considered as green source even though it causes some damage in the local ecosystem.
Sources of Green Energy
Green energy can be generated from different natural sources through natural energetic processes. This causes little or no atmospheric pollution. Various natural sources of Green Energy include anaerobic digestion of plant materials, Wind power, solar energy, biomass power, tidal power, hydropower etc. Nuclear power is considered as a source of Green energy by some scientists, but others consider it as a non green energy due to the generation of radioactive wastes. No power source is impact free. All forms of energy sources have some kind of pollution due to the technology used to generate the power.
Green Energy Technology
Various technologies have been introduced to obtain energy from the nature. The renewable energy technologies contributed sustainable energy for the energy security of the world. These technologies are aimed to reduce the use of fossil fuel and carbon dioxide emissions. The first generation technology started with the industrial revolution and includes the use of hydroelectric power to run machinery. The first generation technology also utilized the geothermal power as a source of energy. The Second generation technologies utilized solar energy, wind power and bioenergy. The third generation technology is under development which includes the method of Biomass gasification, Bio-refinery etc. This technology mainly concentrates on the use of solar thermal energy.
